Understanding Executor Fees in Utah Wills

Under Utah Code 75-3-718, personal representatives are entitled to reasonable compensation for administering an estate. The law does not specify a fixed amount; instead, compensation depends on factors such as the time, effort, and complexity involved, as well as the estate’s size.

In probate court Utah, executors may choose to bill hourly or request a percentage of the estate’s total value. If the decedent’s will includes specific provisions for compensation, the executor can either accept the terms or reject them and seek reasonable compensation instead.
